Our Story

Peru Academy of Art was founded in 2024. We are a classical art atelier and we welcome you to our community. We are pleased to receive artists from everywhere around the world who are looking for an atelier to learn and share their love for art.

Peru Academy of Art was created to fill a gap in the world of academic art in Peru, a space where artists can come together; a community where art meets the foundation and cultural richness of Peru. It is an honor for us to have internationally recognized instructors in the field of academic art.

In Incan culture “Wiracocha” is known as the god of the universe and creation. We chose it as the symbol of PAA as a tribute to our ancestry, a legacy that represents artists as creators.

Estudio Académica
Baca Flor - 19 century

In the 19th century, Peruvian artists traveled to Europe to study and learn from the great masters. Upon returning to Peru, they faced numerous challenges, including ill-informed art criticism and a lack of exhibition spaces forcing them to leave the country in search for better conditions

In this 21st century we welcome all academic artists from around the world to Peru. PAA provides Peruvians with the opportunity to learn from top-level artists in the comfort of their own country as well as everyone interested to learn and become part of our community.

Figurative art dates back to ancient Greece, and despite its cultural significance, it is still prohibited in Peru’s national museums today. Figurative art does not carry an erotic connotation, but one of elegance and nobility. An académie, as defined by Charles Bargue, refers to an academic study of the nude body and consists of nude drawings used to learn the constructive process of the human anatomical figure.
