LUCAS BONONI

The Human Form Through Light, Structure, and Color

Light, volume, and color are essential to the language of painting. In this intensive five-day workshop, participants will explore these elements through live model study, applying academic drawing and painting techniques with a focus on structural solidity and three-dimensional perception. Students will begin with a clear building block, establishing proportion and gesture before moving on to the modeling and finishing phases. Here, we will pose a crucial question: how does the physics of light on form differ from our perception of values? Lucas Bononi will give lectures and demonstrations on the principles of form, the physics of light, optics, and volumetric structure as applied to composition. Students will be able to choose between drawing or painting, and with the instructor's guidance, it will be possible to complete more than one study during the 30 hours of work spread over the five days.

Lucas Bononi (b. 1991, Los Angeles) is a contemporary painter living and working in New York City, USA.

Lucas reflects the sensation of nature through the lens of the modern world in his paintings, with nuance and visual splashes of color and light that tell the story of living in a city while expressing nature's unrepeatable beauty. He invites us to question the relationship between beauty and chaos, as well as figuration and abstraction.

Lucas's was awarded 1st Place in the 2018 Portrait Society of America Annual Members Competition, and his work can be seen in major museums, galleries, and publications worldwide.
