Compositional Master Copy
This Compositional Master Copy course will refine artists’ technical oil painting skills with a focus on design, planning and execution. This class will introduce the importance of shapes and simple values in creating strong compositions. Lessons in value and color will prepare students to learn the basics of composing various genres, and give students the tools needed to create their own personal artworks. These lessons will guide artists to make confident and informed decisions in their own compositions moving forward.
Throughout the workshop, Sandra will share masterwork examples inviting questions and casual conversation with participants. Students will begin with a block-in using oil paint, learn to create a proper poster study, and complete one rendered master copy. Sandra will her feedback to meet each student's unique needs keeping their end goals in mind. Basic block in and painting experience is recommended, although not required.
Sandra Sanchez is a contemporary portrait artist from Los Angeles County and is currently based in Orange County, California. Ever since visiting the Getty Museum as a young teenager and browsing various art history books pertaining to the renaissance era and beyond, she wanted to develop art skills. She sought out schools that could help her reach her goals of learning how to oil paint at a high level. Immediately upon graduating high school, she relocated across the country to immerse herself in classical fine art training at the Grand Central Atelier in New York City, and graduated in 2017.
